Summer iPad


Student iPads will no longer be coming home if you did not complete the online form or paper form to allow your child to keep their iPad for the summer.  If you would like for your child to have their iPad over the summer, please email Mrs. Blizzard at Tona.Blizzard@gcisd.net  

Summer Boredom Busters

GCISD has created a summer activity calendar for students called Summer Boredom Busters. It includes recommendations for a variety of activities all summer, along with a weekly calendar that includes a Humanities, Math, Science and Maker challenge each week.

School Holidays

Friday, May 25th & Monday, May 28th are school holidays.  There is NO SCHOOL for students or faculty on those days.


Field Day

This year we will be at Grapevine Middle School for Field Day. Coach Sutherlin is working hard to make this a fun, special day for our Cubs. Please note - All students will ride the bus to and from GMS.  Students will not be allowed to check out from GMS.




Summer iPad

In order for your child to be allowed to keep their device, each parent MUST let us know whether or not you give your child permission to keep their device. A link is provided below for you to indicate if you give permission or decline this opportunity. PERMISSION FORM MUST BE COMPLETED BY 5/24 - 3:00 pm (only submit form one time)

Thank You!

Thank you so much for all of the love you sent our way this past week for Teacher Appreciation Week.  We felt so loved!  Thanks to our PTA who provided lunch, breakfast, healthy treats & some awesome t-shirts.  It was a great week!!

Field Day

This year we will be at Grapevine Middle School for Field Day. Coach Sutherlin is working hard to make this a fun, special day for our Cubs. More detailed information will be coming home this week, but be sure to mark your calendar!

Library Books are Due

May 1st is the due date for all library books so that Mrs. Wagner can begin the enormous task of packing up our library for the big move.  Please check your car, behind the couch and under the bed for any missing library books your child may have!

Family Museum Night

Our wonderful partners in education at the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History are hosting a Family Night at the Museum and all of our Cannon families are invited to attend for FREE!!  In past years, we have hosted a Young Engineer's Night in May, but due to construction and our need to start packing up the building, we are unable to hold this event at our school this spring.  We are so excited that our families will still have an opportunity to participate in a fun family evening with other families from Cannon!

Family Museum Night - May 1st

Our wonderful partners in education at the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History are hosting a Family Night at the Museum and all of our Cannon families are invited to attend for FREE!!  In past years, we have hosted a Young Engineer's Night in May, but due to construction and our need to start packing up the building, we are unable to hold this event at our school this spring.  We are so excited that our families will still have an opportunity to participate in a fun family evening with other families from Cannon!

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration will be held at Cannon April 23-26 during school hours. On April 23rd, we will have extended hours, until 6 pm, for incoming kindergarten students and parents to attend our Kindergarten Meet & Greet.  Come meet kindergarten teachers, visit a classroom and do some fun STEM activities.



Cub Night Out at Spring Creek

Join Mrs. Wohlferd & Mrs. Hall at Spring Creek on Tuesday, April 24th. Enjoy a great family dinner and visit with your friends.

GCISD Purple Up Day!

April is the month of the Military Child and staff and students across GCISD will "purple up" on April 24 to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices.  Make sure to come dressed in your purple on Tuesday, April 24th!

Safety & Security Parent Meeting

Cannon will host an informal parent meeting to provide information, answer questions, and explain the safety and security measures we currently have in place.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 12th at 8 am in the Cannon Library. Cannon administration and district representatives look forward to discussing our current safety procedures, as well as answering any questions that parents might have.

In your child's folder last week was information about an exciting new opportunity we have for you and your family called Ready Rosie.  This is a video resource for parents to help you integrate fun learning activities with your every day activities.  Look for your first email this week!

March & April Book of the Month

We are excited to share two inventions that have been submitted by 4 of our 2nd graders!  We are so proud of these girls, and their families, for taking the initiative to participate in this challenge.  If your child has turned in their plan for the challenge, final videos and prototypes will be due Friday, April 6.

March & April Book of the Month

For the first time, we have TWO great books for our Book of the Month.  Marvelous Cornelius: Hurricane Katrina and the Spirit of New Orleans tells about a character who lived in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. It is paired with a non-fiction book about extreme weather and natural disasters.  Second graders will be researching extreme weather and then you can participate in the 2018 7th Annual Globe Spark! Lab Invent it Challenge, by designing an innovative way for people to prepare BEFORE a natural disaster, stay safe DURING one or recover AFTERWARDS.  Check out Mrs. Wagner's Book of the Month Resources below.

Returning to Cannon?


Believe it or not, it is time for us to begin making plans for next year and our first effort is to start planning for student enrollment in 2018-2019!

ALL PARENTS OF CURRENT KINDERGARTEN-4th GRADE STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THIS ENROLLMENT FORM BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16th to let us know if your child will be returning to Cannon next year. If you have an incoming Kindergarten student, there is a place on this form for you to share that information with us!



Please note the following:

  • If your child currently attends Cannon through the STEM lottery or an approved transfer, you do NOT have to reapply to the lottery system this year.

  • If you have an incoming Kindergarten student and DO NOT LIVE IN THE CANNON attendance zone, you must complete a lottery application by March 9th in order for your child to be automatically placed at Cannon. All other available spaces in Kindergarten will be determined via the GCISD lottery. (Only Kindergarten siblings of current Kinder-4th grade STEM/transfer students are eligible for guaranteed placement @ Cannon. Incoming Kindergarten students of 5th grader Cannon STEM/transfer students must participate in the lottery for placement in Kindergarten 2018-2019.)

2nd Grade Field Trip


Our field trip to the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History will be Tuesday, February 20th.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch for the day.


February Book of the Month

We are so excited about this month's Book of the Month and Inventors Challenge.  We have read the book Awesome Dawson in class and students are already talking about the inventions they are thinking about.  All information went home with them last week.  Click on the links below to see more about this challenge.

GT LEAD & Aspire Academy GT Testing for Grades 1-4


The parent nomination window for GT LEAD and the Aspire Academy opened February 2nd and ends February 16th, Parents need to complete a Parent Inventory/Permission-to-test form found on the district website under Advanced Academics. Testing will begin February 26.

GT LEAD & Aspire Academy GT Testing for Grades 1-4


The parent information meeting will be Thursday, February 1 from 6:00-7:00 pm at the Professional Development Education Center in Colleyville.  Please make plans to attend this meeting to learn more about testing and qualifying for Cannon's GT LEAD program and the Aspire Academy at Glenhope Elementary for the upcoming school year. The parent nomination window for GT LEAD and the Aspire Academy opens February 2-16, and parents need to complete a Parent Inventory/Permission-to-test form found on the district website under Advanced Academics. Testing will begin February 26.

Field Trip Information

2nd Graders will celebrate Engineering Week with a trip to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History on February 20th.  Please return student permission slips and $5 as soon as possible.


Parent Technology Academy

GCISD's Technology Department has planned some wonderful parent information sessions for the spring semester! Parent Technology Academy is a free monthly series by GCISD Technology developed to help educate our community about our ever-changing digital world. Check out the dates & topics below! Each session is approximately 45 minutes with 15 minutes Q&A.
