Producers & Consumers

This week we have been learning about producers and consumers. Today, students were producers as they planned and created a necklace or bracelet from pasta and cereal. Tomorrow we will find the total cost of the materials we used and the cost of the labor to make the product.

New This Week

Here is what's new this week:

Testing opportunities for telescoping in math for the 2017-2018 school year are available in the spring and summer for GCISD students who are completing grades K through 7. Please help communicate information about these exams. Parents can use this link to get dates for telescoping exams and other information.

LOVE YOUR DEVICE CONTEST FOR STUDENTS! GCISD's Technology Services is hosting a Love Your Device contest! The idea is to capture the spirit and creativity of our students to promote better care of the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD student devices. We want to create a sense of student pride in our one-to-one initiative and encourage our students to exercise self/peer governance. The Technology Services Department will be accepting a wide range of presentations, posters or other public service projects through February 7. The link below has information about district expectations for device care that students may use as a resource. Student winners, announced on February 14, will receive a variety of prizes as well as campus and district recognition. Teachers who actively participate will be eligible for a voucher good for class and/or duty coverage of their choice. Your campus technician has more information along with a poster that includes a QR code linked to our district website which includes all of the details. CLICK HERE TO GET ALL OF THE DETAILS ABOUT THIS FUN CONTEST!

From engineering challenges to advanced academics to language immersion and early childhood education, GCISD offers a world of opportunities for students. Families are invited to learn more about these opportunities at the Special Programs Expo on Monday, February 13 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Cross Timbers Middle School. The expo will feature stations showcasing our STEM programs, ASPIRE Academy and Dual Language programs. Also, at the Expo, families may also learn about the tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten program, iUniversity Prep and Collegiate Academy. In addition to program stations, presentations focusing on the instructional components and benefits of these programs will also be delivered.

The applications for dual language, STEM academies and tuition-based pre-kindergarten will be available online beginning Tuesday, Feb. 14 and are due by Friday, March 10. If more applications are submitted than the maximum number of students each campus may accept, then a lottery will be conducted on Friday, March 31, and streamed live on the district's website. More information will be available on the website after the Expo.

Art Supplies Needed

Do you go out to eat?  The art department would love the CLEAN wrappers or containers that are left over.

They are going to use them for an art project.  Items like french fry containers, hamburger or taco wrappers, small pizza boxes, ice cream sundae dishes, etc.  Mrs. Mattox will have a box outside her room to collect them for the next few weeks.
