Forms of Energy

Today we began a science unit on different forms of energy. We explored sound energy. Here are just a few things we learned about sound:  sound is a vibration; you can see and feel vibrations; sound is an invisible wave.

Lego Robotics

As a part of our force and motion unit we had a great time using the Lego robotics. We built a soccer kicker and then programmed it to kick a paper ball. Some teams were even able to improve the kicker's shoe to make him kick even further.

Pinball Machines

After our study of forms of energy, we used what we learned to engineer a pinball machine. The pinball machine needed to use light, sound and either a push or pull force. It needed to be decorated and fun to play. We had a great time making these machines!

Candy Cane Engineering

Yesterday we measures how much weight it took to break a candy cane.

We found the weak point and then engineered a modification to the candy cane to try and make it stronger. Will one of these designs make the candy cane stronger?

November News

Today is Veteran's Day and our students participated in a special Veteran's Day Assembly.  Did you know Mrs. Wohlferd is a veteran of the U.S. Navy? She spoke to the student body today along with several guest veterans including Mr. Lamas & Mr. Salinas, who are parents and grandparents of two of our 2nd graders.  Mr. Salinas came to our classroom to read us a story after the assembly.
